The Wisest Person I Know

By: Izzy Fizzy Googleman

The wisest person I know is my grandfather. I have many other very wise people in my life which is a good thing. My grandfather is a jack of all trades. He is good at things from doing house chores to finding his way around the woods.

He served in the military in November 1968. He went into active war in  January 1968. He learned a lot in the military. He was stationed in different places so he knows a lot about different cultures.

Some of his best talents can be noticed just by observing. He is great with directions. He is very hardworking and determined. He is a great farmer. My grandfather can fix almost anything. He works six days a week in his own store that his dad owned before him.

My grandfather is gifted with money. He helps my brother with all of his stocks. He knows a lot of money tricks that help you financially. My grandfather is very special and is an awesome person to have around for many reasons. The best one is that he always plays with me.

I respect my grandfather and I appreciate everything about him – he is the wisest person I know!

How I Know And Want To Be God’s Child

Izzy Fizzy Googleman

I know I am God’s child because it says it in the Bible, and everything in the Bible is true. Plus, it would be way too hard to make that up. I have been taught that my whole life. Thanks to my parents, I grew up in a Christian environment. Now that I am older, I have started to read the Bible, and I have grown closer to God, I believe I am God’s child- not just because my parents do, but because I do.

Some more proof I have is all the things He has provided for me and my family. I have a wonderful life with a wonderful family. I go to an amazing school, and I have wonderful people in my life. I would say I am lucky- but it is not luck but love.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE GOD’S CHILD?

It is important to be His child because you would fail in life without Him. He loves you and if you spend time with Him your life will be filled with happiness and love. God is like your shield; He protects you. I am not saying nothing bad will happen to you, but He will help you a lot in life. If you follow Him you will go to Heaven and have eternal life. That is how I know and want to be God’s child.

The Hardest Thing In Life Is Getting Enough Sleep!

By: PB&J

One of the hardest things in my life would be getting enough sleep. Now personally I think I do actually get a pretty good amount of sleep, but most definitely not enough, or what the recommended amount of sleep is -even when it’s the weekend. It’s so much more fun to stay up late at night and play video games or watch a movie. To me, sleep seems like such a waste of time even though I really enjoy getting a good night’s rest.

The 2 biggest things that keep me up at night are reading and electronics. Both are things I really enjoy doing, definitely more than sleeping. Even if I tell myself that I’ll only read a book for thirty minutes, I lose track of time – especially if it’s a good book. Reading a book does calm me down, and it is easier to go to sleep after my eyes get tired, but it also draws me in.

Gaming on weekend nights is always fun. Getting on and grinding a new game or the same game over again with your friends never really gets old. That is why it’s so much fun to play and so easy to play for many hours of the night. The end result is not much sleep, because my parents don’t really let me sleep in late.

There are so many things to do at night. You can get ahead on schoolwork, clean your room, work out, watch a movie, whatever you want! Compared to those things, sleeping just doesn’t sound fun to me or feel like it is worth it. And yes, I know I know – it’s what your body needs to grow and function well the next day, but all these great pieces of evidence go out of my mind when it gets closer to the time to go to sleep. I still do it, even when I’m punished for staying up late – by sleepwalking my way through the next day. I often think to myself, on those days I will never stay up that late again, but I do.

I’ve been working on sleeping more. My Mom says it will stunt my growth if I don’t get enough sleep, and I definitely don’t want that. It may just be one of those things parents tell you to make you go to bed earlier. Either way, I need to work on it. Something that has helped me is reading a boring book. I don’t get sucked into it and lose my sense of time and it’s way easier to just put aside and get a good night’s rest.

I hope you have better sleep skills than I do. And if not, grab a dictionary and start reading.

Clear Skies Ahead

By: Jane Johnson

Welcome back. My name is Jane, and today’s topic is life. Wow, it gives me goosebumps just to think about it. Some days are great, and then we’ve all had one of those days – you know the ones I’m talking about. We can never know how hard the wave is gonna hit when something bad is happening, can we? Life is full of challenges, and to be honest, they never end. We will always have something new to learn or master even if we have hundreds of other accomplishments. But…(there’s always a BUT isn’t there…) that doesn’t mean that we can’t have fun throughout the journey.

Humans experience many different feelings every single day. Depending on what they are living, some feel great while others feel guilty or sad, mad, bad…. you can come up with any emotion you want to fill in the blank.  No matter what you are feeling, remember, it is OK.  I would like for you to be happy all of the time, but even if you’re not, you can still be glad, because this can only mean one thing…you are alive.

Let me tell you about a personal experience that I think suits this blog perfectly. As you may know, I work online, because I live far from my school. Moving to a new place was not my choice. I loved living where I did before, but I  had to because of my dad’s job. Sometimes we have got to do hard things even if we don’t want to. Sometimes it’s for the best, and sometimes there’s just no other choice. And even if we hate doing it, we have got to learn to find happiness – no matter the situation. It may be hard and it may take time, but if you really want to, you will be able to one day. Keep your hopes.

Now, where was I? Oh right, telling you my story… I had to move. I didn’t like it. I begged my parents to stay, but we had to leave. At first, I was mad, then I was sad, next, I was frustrated – my emotions were getting the best of me. Sure, I was sad to leave, but what I was really sad about was…that I had to leave one of the BEST friendships I had ever had.

I still get that homesick feeling – like I want to go back home sometimes. Even though my family doesn’t live there, my friends do. That makes it home. But I’ve learned to keep it together. Not all is lost. I have still been able to communicate via text and facetime, but it isn’t the same. I am very grateful that I still get to go back and visit often.

We all know most stories end up in… “And they lived happily ever after,” right? Well since you haven’t heard it here, it means the story is not over yet. Right now, I still live in the place I moved to. This is my third year here. I have eventually learned to like the place I live in, and to at least have some peace. Even if it is not in my TOP 3 favorite places, it’s not that bad. In case I missed telling you already, I have grown to like my new home as well. I am happy right now. I have got what I need. Even though it isn’t my very favorite place, I have learned to be content. So right now, all I’m focusing on is enjoying the journey.

Now you know that this isn’t a sad story,  there is hope for a happy ending. I am hopeful every day. I consider each morning a blank book with the story waiting to be written.  Who knows, today may be the day that I meet a new friend, have a great experience, or find something adventurous to do.

The Hardest Thing In Life – Speaking Up

By: Carson Smith

Hello, I’m Carson Smith, and what I am writing is the hardest thing in my life. As I wrote this, I thought long and hard about it. When I was younger, I had a lot of trouble speaking up, and I still do now! It started when I was about 4 or 5 years old.

I had to give a speech about myself. I was really scared. After I was done, I felt good because I had just done something I didn’t want to do. When I was giving my speech. I felt like I would throw up.

When I was in elementary school, I rarely asked people for help. I was a very independent kid. I did this all through the sixth grade too. In the sixth grade, I would just give up, and I was completely ok with the idea of giving up. But now, in seventh grade, I am a lot better at my school work and asking for help.

Sometimes I can think that people will make fun of me for something I say or do. If I mess up, I just try to laugh it off. I get so nervous when everyone is staring at me and judging me. If you have the same problem I do then don’t be scared to talk to people just be yourself. I’ve grown through it because I know that if I mess up or do something wrong that’s ok because everyone makes mistakes. The biggest thing I’ve learned is that I have to give myself grace and not be so hard on myself. You can learn that too by not being hard on yourself. Give yourself a break it helps. I hope you find some confidence and learn to talk to people easier.

Hope

By: Carson Smith

Hope is such a fantastic word; I think that many people need more hope in their lives. I was pondering the meaning of hope and decided to look it up. Google led me to find this definition: The meaning of hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a sure thing to happen. I think that is beautiful.

Hope is a very meaningful word in my personal life. I hope that I will be able to work at my dream job one day, and I hope I will get married. There are a lot of things I hope will happen. I hope I will have a boyfriend; I hope that my friends will be around for a very long time – forever would be good. I hope I’m not unhappy when I grow up. I hope I have twins. I hope I have a stable job and one that I enjoy. I hope every day that I have time to read – especially graphic novels. I hope I can help other people have a better life.

Hope is important; it makes getting out of bed each day worthwhile. It’s not hard to sit back and consider what you’re hopeful for, and I think we should do that more often. Taking time to hope helps us appreciate what we have already – don’t you agree? Dreaming is good for the soul.

I can have hope for a lot of things. What do you have hope for? Your child? Your husband or wife? You can have hope for anything! It’s worth it to take time and consider what you should hope for today. Hope will find you – as long as you believe in that thing.

Faithful

By: Paige Grace

I chose the word faithful because the word makes me think about my relationship with God. God is good. I am confident that He makes my life better! He helps me know what is most important. I know that having Jesus as my savior is one of the most valuable decisions I’ve ever made. Now, I need to be faithful to God because other people need to see God living in me. If my actions are honor God, other people can see that God is real too.

I have been through some very hard times. They always remind me I should pray. I pray often, and I know God is in control. We can pray for people who need God because they need a strong relationship with God; they might need healing or need something other people don’t know about. They may just need a Bible or a friend, and God is there for them.

When I pray, I thank God for the day He has given me. I thank Him for letting me be alive, for letting me have the greatest family, and for a stepdad that provides for us. I don’t know where we would be without him. I thank God for helping us, giving us salvation from our sins, and showing us how that works. I am grateful for friends and school and all of the relationships in my life. I ask God to be able to see my real dad, to take care of my family, and for Him to watch over my grandma and grandfather. Truly, everyone in my life needs prayer.

Faithfulness is the reason I have a relationship with God. God is faithful to me, and I want to show Him that I can be faithful back. It blows my mind how God created the world, rose from the dead, and how He holds the whole world in His hand. It’s amazing how awesome He is!

Loyalty

By: Faith Walker

Loyalty is an important word. The meaning of loyal is “giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution.” Official definitions are important, but loyalty to me has an even stronger definition. In my life, loyalty means you are someone that I can trust and someone that is kind. I want people to see me as a trustworthy and kind person, and I want the people around me to be loyal as well. I always want to always be there for the people that I love.

To me, a good friend is a loyal friend. I think that they need to be supportive of our friendship, trustworthy, and loving. I want to be able to count on them, and they should be able to count on me. I have had friends in the past that I thought were true friends but they really weren’t. They weren’t loyal to me, and it hurts when the people that you trust break your trust. I think that if your friends aren’t loyal to you then they probably aren’t really your friends at all, so just be careful who you hang out with. My most treasured friendships are ones that I can count on, no matter what. That’s not most of the people I know, but the ones I really care about.

I think loyalty is a good thing, but sometimes it can be bad. People may be loyal to their leaders, and if they are asked to do something then they will do it. You can see how this is wonderful, because having followers is important for leaders. But sometimes leaders draw others in and after you start to like the leader, you notice they can manipulate you. This can be especially bad because there are consequences in life for those who act wrong. What if you are told to do something bad, by a leader you are following? Then you will suffer the consequences if it all blows up. I think we just need to be careful who we are trusting and following.

My parents always told me to choose my friends wisely – I think this is what they were talking about.

Faith

By: Johnny Ried

Faith Is trust or confidence in someone or something which means, you are sure that thing will happen. When you have faith, you have found something that many people don’t understand. I have learned that faith in Jesus is for everyone and is the most important decision I’ve ever made.

Here’s a great example –  Let’s say you have some money; let’s make it ten dollars. Your friend wants to borrow it. As you give them the 10 dollars – you have faith and trust that they will pay you back. Obviously, if they don’t pay it back, then you were wrong, and you shouldn’t have trusted them. But when you did trust that it will happen – you hoped for it, you expect, and you tried to make it work out. That is faith. You have faith and trust that they will pay you back. If they don’t, they have broken your trust. Then you don’t want to trust other people in the future.

Confidence is knowing that your plans are going to come outright. Knowing I’ll get my work done by the end of the week or knowing for sure that my friends will be there when I need them and knowing I’ll get my ten bucks back are examples of great confidence. I am confident that when I sign onto a website, what I need will be there. When I play online games, my friends will not play against me. I am confident they will play for me. When you get dropped off at a football game, and you have confidence your team will win, you have something to celebrate.

Like I said, faith is being confident, and confidence is having faith. It’s kind of complicated. Faith doesn’t always happen quickly. It’s easy to have faith when things are for sure. It’s a process to believe in things that might not happen. It would be hard to believe a million dollars will fall from the sky – but it could. The less likely something is, the harder it is to have faith.

Knowing that God loves me is something I can be confident about. But trusting God can still be hard. Jesus can’t give me the answers to a test, and if I didn’t study, I doubt that a prayer for help me pass that test. That makes faith hard when there are things I should be giving to God. Sometimes things can actually take your faith away. When things don’t go your way, when you get hurt, when you get grounded, or when something valuable is broken or stolen, that disappointment can really mess things up.

Having faith in Jesus, the Lord, our Savior should be easy, and finding confidence in Him is a good place to start. Faith Is trust or confidence in someone, and that someone should be Jesus. It’s a process….

Dogs

By: Hal Fielder

Having a veterinarian as a mom means you are constantly around animals, specifically dogs. Since I’ve been alive my family has always had at least two dogs at a time. We’ve had Golden Retrievers, Black Labs, Poodles, and Goldendoodles. I count myself very lucky to have had dogs my entire life.

Dogs are some amazing creatures. Even though they may not understand what we say it seems they are able to understand our emotions. This ability is unlike most other animal species we’ve ever found. In my experience, it’s like dogs feed off of our emotions or reflect the feelings we experience.

Dogs are able to understand some words and hand signals. The ability for humans to teach dogs things has allowed them to connect on a deeper level. Dogs can now do flips, tricks, become part of the military or police, follow commands, sniff out drugs, find lost things – even children. Some people get dogs just to protect their homes from intruders.

If you want a dog just know it takes a lot of responsibility to have one. This is not just some toy you grab off the shelf at Target. Play with it for a few days then let it sit in your attic. You have to invest time into a dog. Taking it for a walk, letting it out to use the restroom, feeding it and that’s really just the daily stuff. If you want to teach your dog a trick or a command that takes a lot of time and repetition. It also takes a lot of dog treats.

Dogs are some of the smartest creatures I know although they don’t always use their brains for good. On second thought it might be good for them when they find a way to open your door or find a way to get out of your fence, and definitely when they find a way to get to a pie you thought you put high enough on your shelf, but it’s not so good for me. Sometimes I’m not sure if my dogs have any sense at all; they just completely lose all of their brainpower. One day my dog stole my neighbor’s cat’s food. Instead of just eating it, he brought it to me. It doesn’t make any sense. But I love him anyway.

I really do love dogs. They are loyal creatures who will always be there when you need them (unless they find a way to get out of your fence). I do really hope you’d consider getting one if you don’t already have one.

Fabulous

By: Jane Johnson

Hello everybody, and welcome back. My name is Jane. For this blog, I decided to choose a single word to tell you about. It’s a word that’s meaningful and inspiring. That’s why I chose the word fabulous. Fabulous is a word that I like because, well – in my opinion, it says everything someone needs to know about something or someone. The word fabulous stands for many things that I can relate to, for instance, something fabulous is also fantastic, amazing, beautiful, unique, lovely, outrageous, unstoppable, and special. These meaningful words all come together to create one great definition – FABULOUS. Now, anytime I use this term, even if I can’t find the right word, people know what I mean. With this word, I can now say more than just one word by using only one.

Normally, when people think of the word fabulous, they think of perfect or great…but is that all there is to it? Most people today don’t really think much before speaking. They do think about what they’re going to say, and if it sounds right, but they don’t always think about how their words may influence the way the person they’re speaking to will think of it. In case you didn’t understand, what I mean to say is that I think we should really think of everything we say, to make everything we say, more meaningful and fabulous.

Anyway…the word fabulous may just be an ordinary word that anybody can use anytime, but the way I like to think of it is a little bit different. As I told you before, fabulous stands for many things for me.

The word fabulous also reminds me of the song from the movie High School Musical 2, if you have watched it, you know what I am talking about. The three of the High School Musical movies are some of my favorites, the song “Fabulous” appears in the second movie and is sung by the characters Sharpay and Ryan (Ashely Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel). The song talks about how everything needs to be fabulous, perfect, and great for her, but in my case, I would say that I think that having something or someone fabulous isn’t necessarily about material things only, but about the sentimental value that somebody has for somebody or something. This is why the word fabulous can have different values and meanings depending on the situation that we are putting it in.

The word fabulous pretty much means wonderful, marvelous, incredible, or extraordinary, but it also depends on the point of view of the person. So basically what I’m trying to tell you is that the word fabulous stands for different things depending on the person.

A fabulous person with fabulous friends will know how to use fabulous words to make a fabulous point about sentimental value for their fabulous friendship to continue to be inspired, unique, lovely, special, amazing, wonderful, and extraordinarily fabulous in the future.

Joy

Written By: Grey Point

Joy is a feeling of great pleasure and happiness. When I tell you I have joy, what do you think I think of? Happiness? If there was no joy what would happen I mean everyone would look mad or sad and everything would be different. Joy is something we need in our lives.

There are a lot of things that bring joy to my life. My dogs bring me joy. Every time we get a new dog, I’m so excited to have a new family member. I would love to have a little brother. I’m the only boy in our family, except my dad – but he’s not a boy, he’s a man. I have three sisters and a mom. That is a lot of girl stuff to deal with. On top of that, my grandma lives with us.

Going to church brings me joy. Our church is very welcoming. People want to come back to church when the preacher is good and the people are nice. All of the joyful experiences at our church help people want to get involved. Even the young kids get involved – they have their own classes to go to.

Recently I was able to give my sister my bedroom. Two of my sisters were sharing a room, and they have different sleeping habits. I gave her the gift of sleep – and a whole lot of joy. There is always someone else in your life that could use a little more joy.

I saw where a guy gave away five years of time to stay in an apartment to a homeless family. He helps out with food and supplies too. He helped them to not be homeless anymore. You don’t have to be rich to give that kind of thing away. Someone in a gas station might be looking for change so they can get gas. You can do that – even if it’s just a little.

If everyone on the planet helped out by being kind, by being a better friend or neighbor, the world would be a better place, and we could all experience joy. I wish everyone could experience joy like that – don’t you?

Laughter

By: Izzy Fizzy Googlemen

What is laughter?

The dictionary defines it as a show of emotion or a chuckle, but it might mean more to you. It does to me. I believe that laughter is more complicated than most people think. It is not just a chuckle. It is a sign of joy and happiness. When I hear laughter, the first thing I think of is about my family and me having a fun time. We love cracking jokes or just messing around. To some people, it might be different.

What makes you laugh? Are you a loud outburst laughter type of person or a quiet giggle contributor? I have known people who base their lives on laughter or have jobs to make people laugh. Being a comedian would be a hard job because people are depending on you to make up jokes. Not just anyone can do it. I’m terrible at telling jokes. There’s just something about joke delivery I haven’t mastered.

Laughter is all around us, but sometimes it does not show. For example, when we are angry or having a rough day, we might not even want laughter around us. It’s hard to explain, but sometimes it just doesn’t feel like laughing is a good idea. On the other hand, laughter at the right time is a great way to end a bad mood. If something is funny enough, it can bring happiness. It can make me forget why I was mad at all. And that’s the best kind of laughter.

Being around my family makes me happy. They are great people. My dad is the best joke teller in our house. My brother makes funny faces. My mom has really cheesy puns. Our dogs do stupid things that make us all laugh. And my job is usually to be the serious one, and that makes me naturally clever. Lots of times, my family laughs when I point out funny things I see other people doing or use my wit to make something seem funny. That is what family is for – to bring laughter and joy into your life.

Once I heard someone say laughter is the best medicine. It can make you feel good, turn your day around, and help you find happiness or a helpful distraction. I believe that without laughter, life would be bland, dark, and gloomy.

how to play the drums

By: Grey Point (Pen Name)

My name is Grey, and I started playing the drums when I was seven. I have always loved music, and drums are amazing. I didn’t take lessons until this year – but I have learned so much.

Have you ever noticed the noise drums make? They make a song better. You can do all types of music and change the song just by changing the drumbeat. Without drums, we wouldn’t know how to clap on beat. Some people clap on the first and third beat of a song, but it is better to clap on 2 and 4. That’s called clapping on the downbeat. Some songs make you think you should clap on the second and fourth beat, but that is wrong. The drummer can help you know exactly when to clap.

Playing is fun, but not everything goes as planned when you are playing the drums. One time I was playing, and the power went out, and I was still playing. I used a flashlight and just kept playing. It is nice to have an instrument that doesn’t use electricity.

The rhythm of the drums is important because you need a rhythm to help make a song better. There is something called a tempo, and some tempos go like 1- 2-3-4 in a rhythm, and you can learn your rhythm from a tempo. Sometimes they are faster or slower. Some tempos will make your head spin if they are super fast.

If you haven’t noticed, drums are kind of loud. If you are practicing (which you have to do to get better at playing, electric drums are a great drumming choice. You can plug in headphones to play with them, or you can use speakers too. The electric drums are a great choice if you have someone who is sleeping in your house or you want to practice at strange times. You can also play drums while someone else watches t.v. or reads a book. I’m a huge fan of using headphones to play drums.

The cymbals on the drum set are helpful to make a clashing noise or a cymbal-type noise. You can use the cymbals to get into a verse (a verse is a part of a song). There are lots of elements you can add to a drum set, and any music store can help you find out what you’re looking for.

While you’re at the store, pick up some drumsticks.  The first thing you need to know about drums is how to use the sticks. If your hand is loose on the sticks, hold them very tight, so they don’t slip out when you play. I suggest you watch a video or ask someone to show you exactly how to hold them. It’s kind of complicated, but kind of easy too.

Next, if you don’t know how to get a rhythm going, just put your electric drum setting on a rhythm time. It will do 1-2-3-4 in a rhythm, which helps you get set up to do the high hat on all four beats. Hit it at 1, 2, 3, and 4, then the snare on three and the kick drum on 1. Practice it slowly and then speed up. Soon, you will have a good rhythm going.

The most important thing you need to know about drums is — just have fun! Let the music flow and enjoy yourself.

If you are going to learn the drums, put your all into it. Follow your dreams, and don’t listen to people who say negative things. Look for good reasons to work hard. And practice, practice, practice…

how to ride a bike

Made by: Johnnny Reid

Bikes are fun because bike riding gives you opportunities to get healthy and get some fresh air while doing it. Staying alive requires your body to be fit, and being active keeps you young. Some people are so caught up in being busy or too lazy to get off the couch and go outside. Bike riding is a great way to do that because it is enjoyable, and riding makes the time go by quickly. There are so many interesting things to see, and once you get out of the house, you will have a better outlook on everything.

You don’t have to ride alone. In fact, bike riding is a great way to spend time with others. Bike riding can give you time with your friends or family. You can ride around the neighborhood, to the park, or just up and down your driveway. Some great ideas for riding with friends are going to skate parks or BMX tracks. You can do tricks like wheelies, backflips, or handlebar tricks. But you have to have a BMX bike to do things like that. For families, go on an adventure together.

The first thing you need to know is that bike riding is SAFETY matters. Never ride in front of cars, on the street, or in a dangerous place. A side street is a perfect place to ride. One time I wasn’t using safety first. I used two logs and a board to build a ramp. But, as you can imagine, something went wrong. I didn’t plan well. The logs slid out, and the board slipped away. They weren’t stacked safely. When I hit the ramp, it pushed forward, and everything went BOOM… including me.  You can use your imagination to realize what happened next.

Smart riding is important.

Smart riding is safe riding. Safety gear includes helmet, knee pads, mouth guard, lights for night riding, headlights, taillights, and reflective gear, so cars see you after dark. The most dangerous time to ride a bike is just before dark. Drivers have a tough time seeing riders that don’t stand out from their surroundings. Bright sunlight in the eyes can blind them as the sun sets and it gets dark. Reflective gear and lights can be beneficial at all times, even in the daytime.

The next thing to consider about bike riding is to start small. Most people start with training wheels. These help you stay upright while learning to ride a bike. They are wheels that keep you from falling over. After training wheels, you can get a simple bicycle that fits your gender.

Another thing about bike riding is a chain. You can’t just buy any chain. You have to have the one that fits your bike, and sometimes it might have to be sized. If you don’t have the right-sized chain, it could pop off, which leads me back to safety. What if the chain popped off and you wrecked, and you didn’t have safety gear? If you are doing tricks, be prepared for the chain to need to be repaired, and be ready with your safety gear. It may not look or feel great to wear, but you’ll appreciate it if you have a wreck.

If you are not enjoying riding, consider that your bike doesn’t fit you right. One of the key ways to know if you have a problem is to listen to your body. There is an old cycling rule that knee pain at the back of your leg means your saddle is too high. Age could affect your enjoyment while riding a bike. If you are older aged, take shorter rides, and don’t push it, Just enjoy yourself.  If you are a young age, take shorter rides until you get used to riding.

When you’re confident, you can go anywhere. I know people who ride their bikes to work and save a few dollars on gas each day. You can mountain bike, trail bike, or just enjoy your bike around your house. And it’s never too late to learn to ride your bike. You might even have a bike in your garage – I hope this challenges you to get it out and get back in the saddle.

Now get out there and get some exercise.

why investing at a young age is beneficial

By: P.B.J.

Beneficial… that’s the word I would say best describes what investing at a young age can be for you. This can happen in many different ways, whether financially, learning to organize yourself for the future, patience, and multiple other attributes. In this blogging series, we will tell you why you should invest at a young age and how to use your money to its fullest potential in the world of finance.  I know, I know I haven’t even convinced you why you should invest your money, and I’m already trying to tell you how to use it. From now on, I promise I’ll only tell you why investing is beneficial.

Learning Patience

Learning patience at a young age will help you throughout your entire life. I mean, literally, you will need this skill forever. Although you or I might not like it,  patience is a necessary skill to have when investing. Investing your hard-earned money is already tricky. There is a chance of losing it. Invested money can’t actually be relied on because you might lose it. So never invest money that you can’t afford to lose. It’s also hard because choosing what to invest in is brutal. But then, putting it into a business where you have no control over the money, like in the stock market, you must realize there is a risk. Knowing you could lose it is excruciating. Hopefully, by the time you finish this series of blogs, you will be able to research what you’re investing in and be confident in your investment. This helped me a ton when I first started knowing what I was investing in and if I knew it was worth the risk. It gave me the patience to sit by and let my portfolio grow on its own.

Creating profits

We are finally here for what you are really reading this blog for — making money. Whether you are young or old, you need money. Everyone does, whether you need to buy your first car or put down another payment on your house; money is a necessity throughout life. So why let your money just sit around? Put it to good use; let it work for you.

The average gain on the stock market yearly is ten percent!  This is no guarantee that you will make money; investing is risky, but now is the time to do it. When you are young, you have no bills to pay weekly and more time to research what you’re investing in. Let your money work for you.

Researching

To make profits in investing, you need to know what you are investing in and how much to invest. To know all these things, you need to research them. This is probably the most essential thing to do before investing your money.

Research is a very useful life skill. People who want to succeed at something invest time into it. By learning what you can get out of it, you will understand how to best earn back your money, plus more. You never know how much earning potential you have until you try. Starting your journey into investing will help you learn the easiest and most efficient way for you to research something.

Final Thoughts

By now, I’ve convinced you why you should start investing at a young age. If you are still on the ropes, all I ask is for you to consider the pros and cons of investing and explore your options.  I really hope that you are willing to put in the time and effort. Succeeding at making money and finding financial freedom will provide you with opportunities bigger than you could ever dream of.

how to blend colors

By: Rebecca Mountain (Pen Name)

Hi! My name is Rebecca. I am an 8th grader in North Carolina. I love art!

Let’s talk about art, but more specifically, blending colors. I like to paint instead of using markers and colored pencils because I find this medium easier to use. When you blend paint, something magical happens. It’s kind of hard to explain. But once you experience well-blended art, you’ll understand.

I am sure that my tips can help you blend markers and colored pencils as well. Blending colors isn’t hard. You just have to have fun doing it. One thing that you should pay close attention to is the colors that you are blending.

Some colors make brown when you blend them, and you don’t want to make your art look muddy. For example, purple and yellow make brown, so you won’t want to blend those, unless you are trying to make a color look like dirt or chocolate. Yellow and green don’t make brown so those would be good to blend instead. If you aren’t sure which colors make brown and which ones don’t, you can look at a color wheel. It is a chart that shows primary colors and what they make when mixed. It can also show you what colors compliment each other, and which don’t.

There are two reasons to blend paint. One is to make a new color, and the other is to make the lines between two paints look great. Artistic people blend colors because they want two colors to come together without the colors mixing completely. A good way to start is to get two colors that you want to blend. Let’s say that those colors are pink and blue. You can begin by building up the colors. Then when they are opaque, you can blend.

Next, dip your paintbrush into the pink, and then you can brush it lightly on the blue. Then dip your paintbrush into the blue and start mixing them. Make sure you don’t have a lot of paint on the brush because the blue can easily cover up the pink since it’s darker. When you blend, you want to make sure that you don’t have a lot of paint on the blended area.

Let’s say that you over blended. That means that one color has taken over the other color. Say the blue took over the pink, then you can go back over the blue with the pink. When you do this, make sure you don’t have a lot of paint on the brush, and be sure you don’t completely cover the blue. Try to blend them into each other again and try to use smaller stokes.

When it comes to making your blended paint look great, there is no stopping point. When you think it looks good, then it’s done. Your art should be based on you and what you like. The point of art is to be creative. The most important thing is to have fun with your artwork. Now you should try it for yourself — it’s pretty awesome!

skateboarding with zeek

Do you want to learn how to skate? My name is Zeek, and I am a middle school student who loves cheeseburgers! A little bacon and mayo on top, and you’ve got the best burger ever. Besides cheeseburgers, I love to skateboard. Before we get started, let’s talk about safety. You’re going to need some equipment. Safety matters, and you need to always make sure you are taking care of yourself and not getting hurt. I’ll tell you about it later. Skateboarding is hard, and when you’re first getting started, it takes practice just to even stand on the board. But stick with it, and you’ll have a lot of fun. It took me several days to learn how to ride and balance at the same time. Keeping your head, arms, and legs from getting hurt is important.

First things first, you need to get a skateboard, and you need to wear good shoes. There are a lot of places you can get a board – Walmart, Target, Best Buy, yard sales, Goodwill or other second hand shops, Dicks Sporting Goods, Amazon, eBay, or even Wish. Four wheels are all you need at first, but the better you get, the nicer you will want your board to be. You don’t have to buy an expensive one to get started. Now you need some gear, for instance, shoulder pads, helmet, wrist pads, knee pads – you know, the safety stuff…that’s about it.

Remember I said it took me several days to learn to ride? Don’t be upset if this is hard. It’s going to take a lot of practice. Don’t start by a busy road or on a hill. Find some flat space and practice practice practice.

To get started, just stand on the board and try to move around a little. Try to balance on the board. Even before you get the wheels moving, find your balance and move your body around a little.

Next, let’s get a little more complicated – stand on the board, put your foot on the ground, and push off. If you have trouble balancing while you’re riding, throw your arms up like you would be standing on a curb or balance beam. It’s kind of like walking on a tightrope.

Then just practice for a couple of days. You are not a professional, and you’re not going to learn overnight, so just take it slow and practice until you’ve got it right.

Stopping a skateboard is another important skill. Be sure you know how to stop. You can step on the back. Don’t let yourself get out of control. This is the most important part of skating. Practice when you’re barely rolling, and know how it works before you take off fast.

I want to tell you how to jump a speed bump. You stand on the skateboard, put one foot on the back end of the skateboard, then put your other foot on the other end of the board. Now you push down on the back end and jump at the same time. While you are in the air, push down on the front end. You know you have done it right if the front wheels land first and then the back. Try to stay balanced and try not to fall. Be sure you brag to all your friends about how you can land a skateboard now.

The next move is a nose-grind. It’s almost the same thing as what we just did on the speed bump. It has the same jumping step. So do the same steps as you would do when you jump a speed bump. The only other thing is just trying to make your jump higher so you can reach the rail. Then you just push down on the front foot. Your bragging rights just got even bigger!

Now I’m going to teach you how to do a kickflip. You do the exact same step we already learned, but this time you kick sideways.

Sometimes when you’re riding down the road, you might find a bump or a hole you need to avoid. If you are just trying to go over a speed bump, all you have to do is squat while you are riding. Stay away from holes. Your tire can get stuck, and you are going to fall – no questions.

If you are too scared to try a nosegrind or a kickflip, you need to make sure you get extra practice. Try going to a Walmart parking lot and attempt each move. The concrete parking blocks are great tools to help you learn using different parking lot heights.

If you want to learn how to ride on a halfpipe, I’ll give you a few pointers. It is very tricky, and it takes a lot of practice. Stand on the board, put your foot on the ground and push off. You’re going to feel your body falling backward. At that moment, tilt forward, just a little, and squat quickly. Now, just ride until you get to the other end.

Should I tell you how to pop shove? I think I will. What you want to do is put one leg on the back end of the board as you’ve done.  Put your other foot on the other side of the board, push down on one end, then turn the board around two times, then shove it down your front foot and try. Be careful! It is very dangerous. It is one of the most complicated tricks, so you’re going to need a lot of practice.

Now let’s learn more tricks. This next trick is kind of simple; it’s going to be you on your board going up and down a ramp. When you are going up, lean forward and squat…when you are going down, squat down, lean forward, stay balanced…that’s basically it. But as I said earlier, throw your arms up like you would be walking on a curb.

Are you ready to learn how to do an ollie? You put one foot on the back end of the board, then you put your other foot on the other end of the board, push down on the back end. Once you are in the air, push down on the front end. Once you l, and just keep riding. Once you practice, you can show off.

Our last trick is one I made up. It is called over the rail. You ride till you get to a rail, and you just stand on the board, jump over the rail, but keep your skateboard on the ground. When you are coming down, you try to land on the board. Then to celebrate, do an ollie, and your friends will think you are an expert. They will want you to teach them, and maybe you can write a story one day as well.

So, you think you are ready to skate? If you are, I hope you are good, and hopefully, you got at least three tricks down. One day you should teach other people your skills.

words of wisdom

By: Amanda Roberts

Hello! My name is Amanda, and I have some great tips and advice based on my life that I want to share with you. I want to show you how to face any challenges that we have to go through in life.

Let me tell you about me. I am an online student, not because of the pandemic, but because I live very far away from my school. I know what you are thinking; how does that work? Why didn’t you just go to any other school closer to your house? Well, this may sound silly, but it is because I love my school so much that I am willing to take the classes online just for that! I love the way that they teach. I love my friends, and I genuinely love everything about my school.

Anyway, I recently started middle school, so WOW! BIG challenge! Like surfing the ocean! Right now, I have been in middle school for 2 months. Now that I have understood how it works and that I am familiar with my schoolwork. And my teacher, I love it! I feel like I am doing really good too. But I didn’t always feel like this…so keep reading for more big waves headed my way.

HONESTLY, when I first started, I was a little worried that I wouldn’t make it, but I had to start somewhere. Because fear was not going to help me in anything (always remember that), I decided to put on my big girl pants and surf through my first wave.

The first week of school was a little intense for me because I wanted to take a really great workshop. It was only available for me to take during that specific week. I decided to do it, even though I knew it was going to be complicated. In my case, I ended up finishing my weekly assignments on the weekend and during late hours each night. Finally, I finished, and when I did…I am telling you, it felt great! I was so proud of myself!

I could only get online for my class’s morning meetings for a short time each day, and then I had to leave to go to the workshop. I’m going to be honest and tell you that juggling all of that work was more difficult than I expected it to be, and I felt kind of alone trying to make it all work out. If you are going through something similar, remember that it might take some extra hard work, but we can always make it if we put our minds to it. NO MATTER WHAT.

Since then, life has gotten easier. At first, it seemed like I was asking questions from my teacher about every 5 minutes! And it is true, I asked a lot of questions, but those first questions were the ones that helped me learn and understand the work better. Thanks to all of our communication, I barely ask any questions today because now I know the answer. So, if you ever feel guilty about asking a lot of questions, don’t – as long as they are appropriate. Questions really help because the smallest things can make a difference.

Gandhi once said, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” This quote means that if we want to grow up to be better…and great people, we have to work hard for that because no one else can do it for us. That’s you and me, even if we’re just kids, we can make the world better. It can be our world or someone else’s, but it is our responsibility.

I found myself really worried that I wasn’t going to get it all right. I think lots of teenagers, and preteens too, get overly anxious. So if there is one thing that I learned about these types of situations, it is that fear can make us do some really silly and crazy things. And guess what, all that fear is only in our heads. If we want to grow up to be amazing adults, we’ve got to learn to be brave and just keep going no matter what hard, hard challenges we have to face.

If you are struggling with insecurity, I want to encourage you to keep pressing on. It’s hard growing up. But hard things make us stronger. You can do it! Don’t forget that.
